Compact SUVs are popular in the United States, and several manufacturers offer many different models for this segment. With so many options in front of you, how do you make a choice? This is where it’s crucial to rely on the expertise of an auto concierge or auto broker. Open Road Auto Concierge is a car broker in Los Angeles but is also an auto broker who helps clients throughout the entire country.

Important Car Buying Factor to Consider

One main factor that affects people’s buying decision is safety. This is especially true for those with small children in the vehicle. After all, no driver wants to become just another statistic. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) recently released a list of their top safety picks for the year 2019.

The list below includes ten SUVs that received the Top Safety Pick designation. Contact your local auto concierge if you are interested to learn more about these or other vehicles that didn’t make the list. Take advantage of your local auto broker’s expertise and extensive knowledge of the auto industry to help you select the best vehicle for your needs. If you work with a car broker in Los Angeles or anywhere else, confirm the car broker is working in your best interest when answering your questions and not trying to sway your decision.

Top Safety Pick SUVs

  • Honda CR-V
  • BMW X2
  • Hyundai Tucson
  • Mitsubishi Outlander
  • Subaru Forester

Midsize SUVs

  • Honda Pilot
  • Hyundai Santa Fe XL
  • Mazda CX-9
  • Nissan Pathfinder
  • Toyota Highlander

Top Safety Pick+ SUV Honorees

The nine models below made the safety list, though they didn’t receive the highest tier from the IIHS for safety. Even though these vehicles weren’t considered in the top safety list, they indeed received high scores resulting in the designation Top Safety Pick+. The quality vehicles below should still be considered in your search for a safe SUV. Contact your car broker in Los Angeles or anywhere else in the country if you need help choosing a safe SUV vehicle.

Small SUVs

  • Hyundai Kona
  • Mazda CX-5

Midsize SUVs

  • Hyundai Santa Fe
  • Kia Sorento
  • Subaru Ascent
  • Acura RDX
  • BMW X3
  • Mercedes-Benz GLC
  • Mercedes-Benz GLE

Vehicles that receive the Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS are often put through several crash tests. Some of these tests include the roof, side, and front restraints, as well as headlight operation. All must earn good ratings while advanced ratings are required for front crash prevention tests.

For Top Safety pick designations, the criteria are somewhat similar. Still, there is more leniency in terms of headlight function, and there is some overlap in tests for passenger side restraints and front restraints. Certain vehicle manufacturers performed better than others, such as Mazda and Honda. Though these two manufactures performed very well on the list, Hyundai also performed well by managing to capture four spots on the list.

If you are interested in purchasing any of these vehicles, have questions or ideas, or need to discuss other vehicles that didn’t make the list, you can get in touch with the car buying or car leasing experts at Open Road Auto Concierge. They’re an experienced car-buying consultant who will answer your questions, provide expert and unbiased advice, and who will ultimately negotiate the best deal for your selected vehicle.
